We are Lomvi Robotics, a dedicated group of ten ETH Zürich engineering students working with the Soft Robotics Lab. Our mission is to enable sustainable, non-invasive marine research and push the boundaries of bio-inspired robotics.
Our project unites young minds passionate about robotics and marine ecosystems, working closely with experts to solve real-world underwater challenges. We foster a team culture shaped by curiosity, hands-on prototyping, and purposeful innovation, supported by experienced mentors in the field.
Lomvi Robotics is developing a soft, bio-inspired underwater robot that swims like a diving bird to monitor aquatic life without disturbing it. Utilizing flapping wings instead of loud propellers, it navigates autonomously to gather critical observations over extended periods without requiring human intervention.
Because delicate marine ecosystems require gentle observation, Lomvi provides a silent, non-invasive alternative to conventional rigid submersibles, enabling scientists to study sensitive habitats sustainably and advance environmental conservation.
We are a interdisciplinary team that learns by building, testing, and iterating in the water. Combining expertise across mechanics, biomechanics, electronics, and software, we thrive on rapid prototyping, open collaboration, and a shared dedication to engineering technology that matters.
Based at ETH Zürich and supported by the Soft Robotics Lab, we bridge cutting-edge research with tangible environmental impact. Together with our mentors and partners, we turn bold ideas into mission-ready prototypes-growing as engineers and driving innovation forward as one team.
